The Best Way to Learn Old Norse
The best way to learn Old Norse is by becoming immersed in Old Scandinavian language, culture, and sagas. Our Viking Language series focuses on the language and history of the Viking Age, taking the learner on a journey deep into Icelandic sagas, heroic legends, Viking runes, Old Norse mythology and history.
Viking Language 1 & 2
Viking Language 1 & 2 were created to aid instructors, students and self-learners in to learn and teach Old Norse. After years of frustration with outdated Old Norse grammars and readers, Jesse Byock wrote the Viking Language series as a user-friendly alternative for his students. Graded lessons, saga readings, runic inscriptions, grammar exercises, pronunciation, maps, history sections, student grammar guide, and vocabulary teach Old Norse, Vikings, Iceland, old Scandinavia, myth and legends.
Viking Language Audio Lessons
In addition to Viking Language 1 & 2, we’ve put together two MP3 audio albums that teach the pronunciation of saga passages and runes from the Viking Language series. The audio passages are spoken by native Icelander Ása Bjarnadóttir with introductions by Jesse Byock. Also available on iTunes.
